Day 9 & 10: QingJing

From Wuling to QingJing

From Sqoyaw Village (Wuling) to Qingjing needed about 2 plus hours, along the way there were many observation decks and hiking spots. The weather was great and it was a very memorable trip with beautiful highland sceneries.

We travelled the same route many years ago but the weather was bad and we did not even have any chance to stop our car and come out to explore. Our vague memory of these places were grey and misty with no nice views!

Hehuanshan

Our first stop was at Hehuanshan Service Station, we parked at Xiaofengkou Second Parking (小風口第二停車場, co-ordinates 24.16249, 121.28786). The parking was downhill so after parking we had to walk up to the service station for a coffee break. The scenery was clear and lovely.

While drinking coffee we saw hikers walking up and down the stretch of road, probably walking towards some hiking trail heads. After coffee we drove down to Shimenshan Trail location. We found a small carpark and quickly parked into the first available slot. There was two walking trails. One was a gentle and longer trail which started just opposite the road, the other was a steep trail up a super high stairs up a hill.

We started on the Shimenshan Trail and walked for quite a long distance. Actually the trail went on and on and after about one hour we decided to turn back. The view along the trail was lovely, there were blue sky, white, clouds rocky mountains, with green green grass.

Back at the carpark I decided to trek up the super high steep stairs. YT stayed back to document my effort, I believed he was being lazy! Up and Up I went, stopping about three times to rest. I met two younger hikers who were definitely more out of breath that me.

At the top (3703meter) I rested and met other hikers who came from the opposite direction. They told me that their hike up from the other side was more challenging as atsome sections there was no proper path, they had to rely on rope tied along the slope to get up!

After the hike we were back in our car and continued our drive over/around Hehuanshan. We came upon three observation decks. No hiking these times, just to park and walk a short distance to the decks to admire the lovely surrounding.

CingJing

We reached Cingjing late in the afternoon so we just checked into our “stay” to rest. The next day we started out early immediately after breakfast to explore CingJing. Good for us the fine weather was holding up. We found our way to the start of CingJing Sky walk, an elevated board walk.

There was a charge of TWD50 per person to get onto the skywalk. The skywalk was about 2 km long, it was nicely built and its elevated position certainly provided a great way to enjoy CingJing scenery!

It was definitely money well spent. The weather was good, the walk was sunny yet cooling and the view was fantastic!

Just at the start and also at the end of the skywalk there were places to stop and grabbed some food. It was fine to exit the skywalk to explore the food stores and then reenter the skywalk again with the same entrance tickets.

Our Meals at CingJing

Our stay did not served dinner, so we had to explore food in other place. We found a nice hotel, Sunshine Villa 清境見晴花園渡假山莊, done the road from our stay that also had a restaurant. For our two days in CingJing we ate our dinner at Sunshine villa. It was a “set” dinner, the food was great and the price was reasonable. It costed about TWD 770 for two each time.

Stay at CingJing

We booked two nights at “Villa Relax“. We chose this place for its views and proximity to CingJing Skywalk.

Our room had a great view. It looked out to the valley and faced the morning sun. We should be able to enjoy sunrise from our room!

The breakfast at Villa Relax was pretty simple and basic. It was served in the dining room filled with stuff teddy bears of all size on the ground level with a great view.

Villa Relax had an outdoor deck and the view was fantastic. It was not easy to get a seat at its outdoor deck as it was often full. In the morning the sunrays weres very intense so dining it the shaded dining room was a better option.

Our first night at Villa Relax was very “terrible”. The walls of the room were thin so every movement in the next room was clearly heard. That first night were rudely awaken by the people in the next room, they came back to the room around midnight. The room was supposed to accomodate two persons but we could clearly hear more that 5 people talking, moving around, talking and laughing loudly. After an hour YT went over to tell them to keep the noise down but the noise persisted till 2 am. The next day we went to “complain” to our host about the noise and all she said was that she was aware but could not do anything!

Luckily for us, the rowdy group only stayed for one night so the next night was great. The cost for two nighst for the ensuite double room with a view was TWD6000
