Day 5: Hua Lien

Yilan to Hualien

Yilan to Hualien town was about 108 km and a slow drive took about 2 hours. We planned to stay one night in Hualien city, to enjoy the coastal view and eat some Hualien food.

The drive along the coast was very scenic and we made a couple of  stops to come down and enjoy the coastal view.

Sadly there was no cafe by the coast where we could have our coffee by the beach.

Near to Hualien was the a famous beach, 七星潭海岸風景特定區 (QiXingTan Scenic Area). It was lovely and quiet and there was nobody around at all.

Ten years ago we visited Hualien Town and one of the most memorable food that we had eaten was freshy made mochi. So on arriving at Hualien Town we drove straight to the mochi shop and bought the freshy made mochi. So yummy.

After buying the mochi, we google search for a good cafe. We found ” The Rising Coffee Roaster” just a short distance from our accommodation. Love this cafe, it offered a variety of favours. We picked our usual nutty favour coffee.

That evening we walked from our stay to “HuaLien Dongdamen Night Market”, it was just a five minutes walk. Dongdamen Night Market was a delight! It was so different from Yilan Dongmen Night Market. Hualien Dongdamen Night Market was much larger, much cleaner, much brighter and more cheerful. We were spoilt for choices!

After dinner, we searched for a desert store and greedily bought three cups of desert for two persons!

Our stay at Hualien Town

Our stay at Hualien Town was Constellation Coast B&B. We booked this B&B because it was near the coast, near the night market, provided free parking and the room supposed to have a coastal sea view. Unfortunately when we stepped into our room we saw no seaview from the window. The new building infront blocked out the sea view. If we were to strain our heads we could catch a glimpse of the sea at the side. Definitely this B&B had put up a misleading advertisement in booking.com! The seaview was probably there before the construction of the hotel across the road that block out the sea view!

Breakfast was part of the room package. Yummy and simple. The cost of our stay was TWD1832 for two for a night.
