Day 28 & 29: Deildartunguhver, Akranes & Reykjavik

Deildartunguhver
From our stay to Deildartunguhver was just a short distance of 14km and a 12 minute drive.

This hot spring was really hot and the sign at the hot spring said “100 celcius degree”! The water was bubbling vigorously water and the hot vapour filled the air.

Everywhere seemed to be “out of bound” so there was not much to explore.

Akranes

On our way to Reykvajik we made a detour to Akranes. The drive to Arkanes was about 1 hour and the distance was 69km from Deildartunguhver. Arkrane was a simple town and soon we found ourselves at its tip where a lighthouse stood.

Akranes was a port town about 42 km from Reykjavik. On the map there were two lighthouses at the tip of the peninsular,  one old and the other new. We walked to the new lighthouse after we parked our car and took a couple of photos.

The weather was great, the sky was blue and the coastal view near the lighthouse was striking. We took a walk on the natural rocky path that stretched out to the sea.

Back at Reykjavik

We were back at Reykjavik on day 28 where we stayed two nights before flying out in the wee morning of day 30. We did not do much in Reykjavik these last two days as we had already explored enough on day 1 and 2. We visited the shopping street (Laugavegur) again and sought out more street art/paintings

Off course we visited Hallgrimskirkja again. This time the place was full of tourists, many more than when we were here 28 days ago.

Our Stay in Reykjavík

Our stay for our last two days in Iceland was in Reykjavik, this time we stayed on the other side of Reykjavik Church.

Our stay was a self-contained studio at “Downtown Reykjavík Apartments” which we paid Eur332 for two nights.

Downtown Reykjavik Apartments was a three stories building and parking was directly outside the apartment. It was very convienent to roll our luggages to the reception counter which was on the ground level.

The unit was much smaller than our expectation. Sadly our unit was also on the ground level which meant our room window faced the side walk. If we drew open the curtain or open the window every  pedestrian walking by would see into our room. With the drawn curtain and closed window we felt very cramp in the unit!

It was our last two days in Reykjavik and we had to cook all the grocery/food that we had as we had no intention to bring any leftover home! Though our unit had a kitchen, it was difficult to cook in the unit as the ventilation was bad and the cooking hood was not very efficient. After each cooking, the cooking smell stayed in the unit for a long while!
